Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with 143,000 miles on it. It is a 1-owner vehicle with a clean carfax. Up until 5/12 (last Wednesday), it was driving totally normal. I parked it, picked up lunch, got back in the car to start it and the engine turned but would not catch. The battery, oil/antifreeze/brake fluid levels and everything else seemed fine but could not get it going. AAA towed it to an AAA-certified mechanic, McLean Automotive Service Center in McLean, VA. After an in-depth look at the vehicle and pulling off the valve cover, they found that the rocker arm is bent, a few other surrounding parts were loose and it basically just needs a cylinder head. The mechanic recommended that it have both cylinder heads replaced while you’re at it since you have take a good portion of the motor apart to get to everything. I was planning on selling the Jeep in a month once I settled into Washington DC as I just relocated here for a job from NYC and planned on taking public transportation. I’m still going to sell the vehicle albeit at a lower price since now it needs work. Again, before 5/12, it was running perfectly fine with all of the following functioning as expected – engine, transmission, suspension, steering, power locks/windows/mirrors/sunroof, AM/FM/CD/Sirius Satellite Radio/iPod adapter that connect to AVIC-N5 Navigation/DVD Player flip-out unit (just purchased 3 months ago) with great sound system. As you can see in the pictures, the battery and some other parts are in the back seat since they had to be removed for the mechanic to lift up the valve cover. I am selling the car as-is, the buyer is responsible for towing, and again, all I know based on what the mechanic tells me is that the vehicle needs a cylinder head, though he recommends 2 cylinder heads (the max the car takes) for good measure since it will take a good amount of labor to perform the job.
