Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on an increasingly rare BMW 325 IX - E30 body style, The E30 body style has been very popular since it's debut in the mid 1980's, Unfortunately, time and lack of care on these cars are decreasing their numbers every year. The IX model (all wheel drive) in good, servicable condition is becoming a rarity. I have owned 11 BMW autos over the years (most of them vintage) - 4 of them where E30s (still have a 1986 E30 325E that I drive daily). I purchased this 325 IX from a fellow member in my Kiwanis Club about 3 years ago. This gentleman had owned the car since new in 1988 and had all the records of maintenance done over that period. The vast majority of all that maintenance was done by CASEY BMW in Newport News Va. The previous owner had kept the car after his wife died (it was his wife's car) and had been reluctant to sell it. The car had about 192,000 miles (or thereabouts) when I bought it. I like my cars to be original / stock. There have been NO modifications to this car. This car has been a daily driver by myseld and more recently by my daugther at college. This E30 was driven regularly up until this last month when I bought my daughter a Miata. Needless to say she promplty returned the E30 to my garage and took the convertible back to college. When I bought the car in 2007 I completed the following repairs: -New struts all around late 2007 (or thereabouts). ALL fluids flushed ( I do this with any new car that I purchase). All fluids changed on a regular schedule. - New CV Boots up front when I bought the car - renewed the old ones as they were developing cracks. This work was done when I had the struts replaced when I originally bought the car. -Repaced the Timing belt, water pump, tensioner pulley, and all belts in/around Jan 2008 at the BMW dealership in Charlottesville. This was done as a preventive measure as the last time the timing belt had been done was 5 years prior to when I bought the car . -Replaced spark plugs and cables plus distributor rotor my-self as general tune up when I bought the car. Replaced Air and fuel filter at that time also. This has been done again within the last 10,000 miles. -Replaced all worn roundels when I bought it in 2007. They still look very good. - I should also mention that I replaced the instrument circuit board when I bought the car. This piece OFTEN fails on older E30s - causing the Tachometer to stop working (what happens is the rechargable battery on the circuit board fails as it ages and will not keep a charge). Once I replaced it, the Tach worked as normal. More often than not -the Tach will not work on an older E30 - this is the reason why. Odometer and speedometer work as they should. All instruments work on the car as they should. - Also had the transmission and transfer case replaced in late 2007. The original gave up the ghost around 200k miles. - 4 New tires in / around the summer of 2009. - Front Brake pads renewed in early 2010. The car is 4 doors, automatic. Has the BMW black "leatherette" - which is in VERY GOOD condition. No rips or tears. That stuff wears like iron - I actually like it better than leather b/c it holds up so well. The Interior is in VERY GOOD shape - I would consider it excellent based on the age (21 years) of the car. Two front seats have heated seats - nice options in the winter. They both work fine. Has original BMW tape deck/radio. Trunk is VERY clean. Almost all of the tools are present in the trunk tool kit. Exterior is very clean - paint appears to be original - from what I can tell. Paint glosses up well with a good quality wax. The body is very straight (with only two exceptions which I will note below). The car drives as it should - very good handling. It did exceptionally well in the MASSIVE snow we had this last winter. One of the few cars that could get out of our neighborhood. BMW AWD works like a charm! The car also has the factory body trim (I think it gives it a Euro look) around all the fenders plus the rocker panels - looks great. Also the bumpers are the newer version used in later model E30 s. It looks very nice and is all stock from the factory in Germany! Also - Car has all orignial keys - I know this is an odd thing to mention - but of all the old BMWs that I have owned this is the ONLY one that had the original BMW keys - The main key (with light -that works!), the valet key (only starts car DOES not open glove box or trunk) and the small metal "wallet key" (you keep it in your wallet). I had copies made from the originals that I use daily. Overall - an excellent example of the BMW 325 IX NOW - the only exceptions: The AC does not currently work. I worked great for about a year or so after I bought it. But it started cooling less and less -so I stopped using it as I did not want to burn out the compressor if it was only freon. So, it could only need freon - by I dont't know for sure. It is not all that hot where I live, plus I only tended to drive the care primarily to work (early morning) and home in the early evening. Although, my daughter drove the car all the time over this last year. -There are two small dents on both fenders near the front of both fenders where they meet the lights. Both dents are about the size of my thumbs and about as deep. The could easily be repaired - however I just never go around to it. - There is a small rust (?) bubble (about the size of 1/2 a lime) on the lowest end of the back rear valance (under the bumber). This is not easily seen, in fact I had never noticed it until another bidder asked me to look at this specific area under the bumper. This would be easy to fix from what I can see. -The car does burn a little oil - however that has not really been a problem. Any car (even BMWs) with 222k + plus miles will likely burn some oil. - The rear Brake pads need to be renewed. I have the pads - but have not had time to do the work. The pads go with the car. I am also listing the car locally. I reserve the right to cancel the auction immediately if the car sells locally before the auction ends. This car is sold as is.
