My wife and I bought this car about 6 months ago - we really adore it! But, my wife has been out of work for more than 6 months now, and I am On Social Security Disability - so things are very tight with 5 children in the house! The only reason we are selling this beautiful car is due to financial necessity!!! Note: I am going to rely on the previous owner's (PO's) description heavily, as it is very accurate. Plus, we really need to get this beauty listed and sold (to help pay bills) to a Buyer who will cherish it as we have for this little time that we've had it. I will edit with deletions or additions where necessary - in RED. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: The Washington Title is CLEAN (Which means it's Never been wrecked, stolen, or damaged). I have the CarFax Vehicle Report and it's Perfect Too (with a CarFax BuyBack Guarantee Certificate - see pictures). I have owned this BMW for many years - I've taken care of it & it's taken care of me (PO's comment). The 540i was the Top Of The Line 5-Series BMW. It comes with a more powerful engine than the 525i, 530i, etc. Under the hood is the 4.0L 282HP 32-Valve Dual Overhead Cam V8 Motor - Connected to a 5-Speed Automatic Transmission. With this combination, the car can take off like a rocket and cruise at low RPM's on the highway with ease (I can verify this comment by the PO). The MSRP in 1994 was nearly $50,000.00, and this car was worth every penny (PO's comment). The 540i really is the Ultimate Driving Machine! It has power, looks, handles great, room for 5 people, and everything is power! As for Economy / Gas Mileage, I average 19 mpg in the City and 26 mpg on the Highway (I would say about 16-18 mpg City, 24-26 mpg Highway). All the Power Options work, including the Cold A/C, and the Heater Blows Hot. The Power Sunroof Opens & Closes w/ No Leaks. The windows roll up and down. The check engine light is OFF, and there are No Warning Indicators on the dash (see additional comments below the PO's description). The suspension performs as it should. DEQ is recent - Emissions Testing is 100% - Tags are Good till 2010. The Title is in MY NAME with No Loans or Liens Attached. (DITTO for Washington Emissions Testing and Tags through November, 2010. Title is CLEAR in OUR NAMES). The Exterior is in REALLY GOOD Condition. The Paint is shiny and looks wonderful - (SEE PICTURES - SCROLL DOWN). The Interior is CLEAN and Smells Great (we've purchased Floor Mats and Anchors - however, the Driver's side mat is a little short for a tall driver like me with the seat all the way back)*. The Engine Runs Great, and the Transmission Shifts All Gears 100%. I'VE LISTED EVERYTHING GOOD ABOUT THIS VEHICLE, SO, IS THERE ANYTHING BAD? (PO's COMMENT & LIST): The clear coat is coming off in some spots on the top / roof of the car (a little bit on th hood and trunk top surface). It doesn't bother me too much, as no one can see it unless they are really tall. The rest of the paint is great with no clear-coat problems. There may be a small ding or scratch here and there, but nothing major... just see the pictures. A couple of the OEM wheels are also missing the plastic center caps / covers (3 of the 4). That's about it. :) In addition to what the PO already listed there are the following items of note: The front dashboard 12-Volt DC Accessory Plug (used to be a cigarette lighter & was yanked at some point) is missing, so the vehicle had to pass Washington State Emissions Testing the old-fashioned way on the rollers, which it did with flying colors. The passenger side temperature control colors displayed on the panel behind the temperature control dial is mis-positioned - the temperature adjusts fine - just needs the panel indicator re-positioned (it may be a very simple fix) - but I haven't had time to try to turn it due to my illness/disability. The lower portion of the electronic dashboard display (transmission shift lever position indicator / warning display) occasionally "flicker" for a few seconds and then stop. This does not include the speedometer, tachometer, or any drivability functions. After a few seconds it this intermittent "flicker" stops - the odometer and trip odometer still track accurately, the radio and "on-board computer" function normally. This seems to a display problem only - but I haven't had time to investigate it further due to my illness/disability. Lastly, just lately, the warning display will occasionally show a "suspension leveling" - "see owner's manual". But, this seems to happen mostly when I'm in the car (as I weigh 400+ lbs.). My wife has driven the car the most - I have only been in the car from 2-3 dozen times in the last 6 months since purchasing it (due to my illness/disability). So, this may need to be looked into - but I'm told it doesn't seem to happen very often when I'm not in the vehicle. ADDED 04/20/2010: I checked the Owner's Manual that we purchased for this 540i and it said to check the rear tire pressure (as it should be 41 psi vice 33 psi in the front tires) - they were a little low. Filled to specified psi. With most of our family being HUGE - just myself and one of my children weigh as much as about 4 average size people (650+ lbs) - it's likely the ECM/PCM saw the dip in the rear end with the weight as a potential suspension leveling event. The manual also said to add +3 psi to the rear if heavy weight, speeds over 125 mph (not recommended if not on an autobahn), or non-OEM tires are on the car. I haven't tried that yet as I'm not in the car very often. The driver's side Fog Light cover is cracked - I have purchased a set of protective covers to install over the Fog Light lenses.
