Vehicle Detail
This is a VERY collectible 1975 Honda CB400F VIN #CB400F1038213. According to the “Classic Japanese Motorcycles Buyer’s Guide”, the CB400F “did everything very well; the bike handled well and the engine had a feeling of CORRECTNESS to it that is very hard to describe…the CB400F is highly sought after by collectors”. This is a 408cc inline four cylinder with SIX speed transmission, four carbs, unique factory 4 into 1 headers, standard front disk brake, and classic café racer styling. This bike is Varnish Blue with all original factory decals. This bike is USED, but not abused. It was ridden (mileage is 25,696 miles) and maintained regularly by the former owner. I BELIEVE this was actually a Canadian model originally – it has the smaller (and in my opinion sexier) turn signals and taillight. In addition, note that the switchgear includes a “Park” option on the right side control and a “Passing” high beam switch (incorporated with the horn button) on the left side control. Since we got the bike, the following are new: battery, seat cover, front brake caliper seal, spark plugs, and RH side mirror. The following maintenance was also performed: points and timing set, cam chain set, oil changed, and valves set. This bike starts quickly and runs great, and there are no leaks. This bike has both electric and kick start and both function fine. Clutch, transmission and brakes all work fine. Except for the horn (intact, but not working), all electrical switches, lights and starter motor function fine. The Off/Park/Lights switch is missing the plastic top, but works fine. Instruments and warning lights all work fine. Forks are clean with no apparent leaks. The Michelin tires are both like new. This bike also boasts the following accessories: Koni shocks, aftermarket passenger pegs, locking gas cap with special key, Twist Assist throttle/cruise control, and even has the factory tool kit! However, it is not perfect. Here are the following nits that I can see: gas tank has a dent on the top right (see photo) about the size of half a golf ball, in addition to a crease just below the Honda decal on the left side (see photo) and a few other blemishes. There are LOTS of new tanks on eBay currently if you want perfection. The headers, wheel rims, and some spokes have some surface rust which may or may not be able to be cleaned up. Front fender has a very small dent that is almost unnoticeable. Muffler has some acid staining from a poorly routed vent tube (now rectified) but is very solid. Plastic headlight shell has a slight crack at the top that can probably be easily repaired, but I need to disclose it (see photo). The odometer reset knob works fine, but is missing the rubber boot (a frequent malady). The tachometer face screws are slightly loose, and the face buzzes occasionally. Chrome chainguard is missing. I did not get a chance to get the carbs synced, but they don’t seem too far off. Bike comes with a clear California title and we can also provide a Bill of Sale. Bike has not been registered in 5 years, so the CA DMV will most likely treat this as a new vehicle reg (which negates any back fees). I hope this description and the photos will answer most questions, but please do not hesitate to email with inquiries before bidding. Sold as is. If you’re looking for museum quality – this bike is over 35 years old and not 100% perfect – but it’s close!. This bike would be great addition to your vintage collection or a nice daily driver!
