This is a 1979 Trans Am Y84 "Bandit" Special Edition -- I have the Pontiac Historical Service documentation to verify this is a true Y84 "Special Edition" Trans Am. It was originally a 301/auto trans car but the previous owner installed a '78 Pontiac Trans Am 400 W72 engine (code "WC") with a Holly 4 bbl carb. The engine does not run, but I verified it turns over freely by hand, although I have not tried to start it. The previous owner said it started knocking one day and she shut it off and towed it home, where it sat for 10+ years until I bought it. The TH350 trans should work fine as the car ran and drove daily before the engine issue. It's an A/C car but the compressor is missing, and the drive shaft is also missing. It has rust on the lower areas of the doors and lower rear quarter panels, but the inside of the rear wheel wells are very solid as are the frame rails and the floor. There is some surface rust in those areas but no holes that I can see, and the trunk has no holes either. The quarters could probably be fixed with patches but new quarters would be the ideal way to repair. The front fenders are decent, driver side has some small rust pinholes, and the passenger side fender looks solid. The body has normal dents & dings for its age but nothing too bad, and no apparent accident damage. The previous owner installed a 1978 front nose, but I do have a nice 79-81 nose assembly available at extra cost to the winning bidder. The interior is all there and in decent shape for the age, seats are faded but fabric is not ripped, it has manual windows and door locks. It has the gold steering wheel spokes and gold dash bezel specific to Y84 SE T/A's. The previous owner lost the keys and broke out the steering column ignition lock, so the damaged column would need to be replaced. Here's a great opportunity for someone to restore a true Y84 SE Trans Am. This is a rare '79 SE -- in 1979 pontiac only made 360 SE's with the 301 cu. in. engine & auto trans, & this car is much rarer because it doesn't have T-tops. Although 1979 doesn't break it down, in 1980, only about 3% of the 301/auto SE's built were hardtops. That gives a good idea how rare this car probably is... it could be in the low double digits! The car has a clear title & is for sale locally, I reserve the right to end the auction early. The car does not run or drive and will need to be trailered or dollied. Buyer is responsible for arranging & paying for delivery or is required to pickup car within 7 days of auction end. Cash payment at time of pickup or paypal is accepted if buyer pays their 4% fees.
