This van was originally a 4 cylinder 2.5 turbo, NOT a 6 cyl. Please read the ENTIRE description before you bid so you know what you are buying. It needs a few final touches to be street-ready. This auction is for a RACE READY 1989 Dodge Caravan SE with a 1991 Spirit R/T Drive train installed. This van was owned by Richard Paul and I purchased it from him almost 2 years ago. I have put just over 2,000 miles on it since I purchased it and I have raced it at Cecil County Dragway only 4 nights. My last run was last summer and it ran a 13.7@ 101mph at 9 lbs of boost (60ft 2.23). My best time ever was a 13.5@108. I never upped the boost and I never did any mods in addition to what the previous owner had already done with it. It begs for traction in 1st and 2nd gear (I will upload videos within the next day or two of the van in action). A pair of slicks and a few mods and you have youself a 12 second minivan. It uses the T3 and 5spd A 568 from a 1991 Spirit R/T. The engine had about 145K total miles on it. The bottom end had been rebuilt about 20K ago and turbo replaced. A new clutch, water pump, timing belt and underdrive pulley were installed. The van uses the front crossmember and rack and pinion are from a Gen 2 '94 minivan and the cast dual pivot A arms from the same. Front sway bar is from a Gen 2 Sport Van with the larger sway bars. Front springs are from a Gen 2 Grand Caravan Cargo Van with HD springs. They are shortened to lower the front about 1 1/2" and also make them stiffer. The intercooler is from a Ford Truck with a Powerstroke Diesel. It fits from headlight to headlight and from top to bottom of the grille opening. The wheels are from a 2000 Caravan Sport package. They are factory 17" wheels. Tires are 45 series Kumhos. Exhaust system is 3" Stainless downpipe with a 3" High performance catalyst. The Cat is flanged on both ends and can be removed and the included test pipe bolted in for race days. Exhaust is 3" mandrel bent all the way out to the stock exit point behind the RR wheel. Headliner, sunvisors and console were redone. Seats are in good condition with no tears. Headlights are converted to H4. The van was originally an auto van but all the correct parts were removed from a stick minivan. The proper mount was welded in place and painted. Pedals have new pads and new clutch self adjuster. Gas pedal is special "Shelby" style one made for a minivan (looks like R/T or GLHS pedal). The wiring harness was built using a 1990 5 speed turbo van engine harness as the starting point. All the necessary wires from a Spirit R/T harness were added. Everything was soldered and then sealed with Mopar Heat shrink tube. Harness looks factory and fits well. It took two ASE techs about 8 hours to finish the wiring harness. Alternator is a 120 amp Nippondenso. Before installing the engine and harness, everything was removed from the engine compartment and it was professionally repainted in the correct factory color. The van uses the air cleaner assembly from a Jeep Grand Cherokee. It mounts where the battery was. Battery is in the middle under the end of the middle seat. Battery is an Optima gel type. Radiator is a new three row HD all metal replacement for an 89 van. Cooling system needs to be finished to keep the air flowing thru the radiator and not around it as the van will get hotter when under boost or long grades in the summer. There are also a lot of air leaks around the intercooler and radiator as the AC condensor was never installed. The idle is lousy and it has a vacuum leak. There is also a little pressure in the crankcase, you'll probably want to do the rings. Brakes need to be bled as the van sat in storage all winter. I have started the van every week or two and I take it out for a drive a couple times a month. All the hard wiring and fabrication is done. Plan to do some tuning and solve the bad idle and to refine the radiator and AC before you drive it a lot. Extra mouldings and trim are included with the van. Service manuals are included specific for both the van and the drivetrain. Title is clear and in my name. I recommend towing it home. The van is currently in storage in Bear, DE 19701 and will be available Monday through Friday 9am-5pm as the lot is locked up after that time.
