Vehicle Detail

AWESOME, LOW MILEAGE, RUST FREE, 1979 PONTIAC TRANS AM....BANDIT STYLE!! This 1979 Trans Am spent most of its life in NC and as a result is one of the really good rust free TA's still on the road. The first thing that probably pops in your mind is Smokey and the Bandit when you see this car and rightfully so as this car looks just like a Bandit Special Edition car. However, although it was originally a Black and Gold Trans Am from the factory, it was not ordered as a Y84 Special Edition. Approximately 8 years ago when the car was painted the owner decided to give it the Special Edition Bandit treatment with the added pin striping and gold painted grilles. He even had the Bandit decal put on the door handles. Most importantly though he had an extremely solid NC car to work with and had a very high quality paint job applied to the awesome body on this car. This Trans Am definitely has the stance you would expect and thes have proven to be top on the list with collectors. What I like best about these Trans Ams aside from them bringing back some great memories is just how fun and easy they are to drive. They handle the road great and with the T-Tops off you have the feel of a convertible. This is definitely a car you can show up at any local show or cruise in and attract a crowd or just jump in and enjoy it wherever you go! Hopefully the pics and video that follow will give you a good feel for the quality of this car and I will do my best to give you an honest description to help you decide if this is the Trans Am for you!! I purchased this car from a gentleman who owned it for 6 years. It was a NC car before him and had been painted prior to him so I am estimating the paint was done about 8 years ago. As I mentioned this car was originally a Color 19 Black car and it was treated to a very high quality paint job in its original black color. As you will see in some of the pics and the video walk around the paint has a very smooth and mirror-like finish. Body panels appear to be all original and the gaps look great and doors open and close nicely. There are some very minor chips along the front edge of the drivers side door where it meets the front fender that could easily be touched up. The body is very straight and solid with no bubbling or cracking in the paint as you see on lower quality vehicles. The hood bird and all pin striping looks excellent! Other then the few minor chips it is very hard to pick the body and paint apart on this car. At some point, probably back in the 80's someone add the rear window louvers and they really look right on this car and are functional as well. They are in great shape and do not rattle like some I have seen. Below are pictures of all body panels for you to get a good feel and then at the end of the auction is a walk around video for additional views. This Trans Am also came from the Factory with the Black Vinyl interior which is in fantastic condition. It was either well preserved or redone at some point. The seats are firm and there is really no wear on any of the seats. The carpet looks very good and I added some nice custom Black and Gold Trans Am Floor mats as well as nice embroidered Trans Am Bird between the rear seats. The dash pad is in excellent shape with no cracks as was typical on these. Headliner looks great and is not sagging. The gold dash looks very good and is not faded out. The steering wheel looks great with some minor cracking to the vinyl center horn button. Center console looks great with a minor crack on the passenger side. All of the gauges and lights appear to be working properly and the windows roll up and down nicely and glass is in great shape. An aftermarket stereo was installed many years ago and the dash was not cut or altered. Weatherstripping all looks very good and it appears to be the original around the T-tops which is good since the aftermarket ones tended not to fit as well and leak more often. I did not notice any leaks when I washed it. The T -tops look excellent and come in the Original Fischer carry bags. Overall the interior presents itself as nice as the exterior! This TA has its original 6.6 403 V8 with only 90,500 original miles as I was told by previous owner. The motor feels very strong and the cars drive out very nicely. Automatic transmission shift smoothly. Power steering makes handling a breeze and power front disc brakes stop the car great. As you will notice the car was originally an Air Conditioned car but at some point the compressor was removed. Most everything else appears to be there so A/C could be functional again if you add another compressor. Quite honestly I have never used the A/c on any of the Trans Ams I owned and find that if you really want an ice cold cabin you are better off adding an updated Vintage Air compressor anyhow. This car deserves to be driven and enjoyed with T-tops off, windows rolled down and the wind and sun in your face. This Trans Am is running on a very nice set of 15x8 Snowflake wheels that are wrapped in almost brand new Cooper Cobra Rubber. The floor pans on this car are rock solid, rust free and as nice as any I have seen. The trunk is also rock solid and has the original space saver spare and jack. This Trans Am is ready to hit the streets and be enjoyed!! Overall this is just a great Black and Gold Trans Am that you can drive and enjoy while knowing you have one of the hottest investment cars from the 70's in your garage. While it is not in concourse show condition it is definitely one you would be proud to own and get many years of enjoyment from.
